Don’t Fight the Wall

by wildfeministappears

I’ve been on wordpress for awhile now, and I’ve spent a lot of time scrolling through blogs tagged “Feminism”.  Most of it is positive, but some of it comes from people who just hate feminists and hate our agenda.  They put out their side of the argument, and many times I ignore them.  I only really consider their argument if it is something I haven’t heard before.

However, I never argue with them.  I would never try to comment on their blogs.  It might seem like I’m just nervous about being caught off guard or winding up looking bad.  But that isn’t it.  I just realize that they won’t listen.  I will debate with people who aren’t angry, but I will never try to debate with someone who just wants to spread hatred.

I realized that I hold the same sentiment as (as cheesy as it is) a quote that I found on facebook.  It said to never waste your time arguing with people who are devoted to misunderstanding you.  And it might sound cynical, but it’s true.  There is no use talking to people who just want to be angry.  Time is better spent talking to people who want to know more, or have just heard rumors.  Talk to people who are willing to listen.

The wall does not care about your opinion.  The wall cares nothing for your reasoning.  It is a wall.  It has its own agenda, and that is to keep up the house that it was built with.  Hateful people are like walls.  They just want to keep up their own house, and don’t really care what your opinion is.

So, stay proactive.  Work with people who will work with you.  In the end, you’ll be less bitter and you’ll have better support.  I certainly don’t want to fuel hate, and I’m sure fighting it is exhausting and unproductive.

Stay happy with your own life, and let others stew in their own hate.  It’s their problem, not yours.
